9. Blatherskite
|
"I don't want to hear your blatherskite — I need you to speak clearly about things that really matter."
"The teacher had great insights, but he was such a blatherskite that his students never understood them."

Looking at the Genius word of the day examples, I'm starting to fear some of my colleagues--perhaps the whip-smart editor with dry delivery--could've written this entry about me or more likely me and a bevy of other teachers and colleagues in their life. *GULP*
Is it just my self-consciousness and paranoia?
But it's true, I am full of balderdash and rubbish sometimes because I tend to joke and I go off on tangents!
Speaking and writing clearly is the biggest challenge I have as a human and a writer. This is how I lost my students sometimes.
It's important to remember the audience, context, and goal of what you're saying/writing.
I'm writing all this humdrum in my disembogue daily blog for myself because I'm anxious and self-conscious. It might help me muster some stoicism for the real world and help me make it in the professional world or at least maintain some personal relationships.
"George Washington was in a cult, and the cult was into aliens, man," mused Slater, the stoner kid from Dazed and Confused. That's a great example of a blatherskite. Man that kid liked to talk and say things like "You know, man?"

Don't even get me started on 45. Talk about a blatherskite.
Certain people on the bus. The ones who are talking to the air and telling people around them they're famous and heading to an audition in the International District. Meanwhile, they smell like pee and motor oil and have half their teeth. That's a really sad example of a blatherskite. There are many such examples on the 7.
And me, I'm certainly not the worst blatherskite there is. I guess I only open up around people I trust. And sometimes they tell me I'm full of nonsense. But nonsense is fun!
